More than Two-to-One in Favor of…
Today was another day when the two of us here were in agreement, and from the results of the poll, it would seem so are many of you. Here’s the final tally, and what the two of us thought today:
Brad: I was surprised by New Holland. The beer was very good and highly enjoyable. I’m trying not to be a homer today but I have to vote in the end for the Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold. Both of these beers were fantastic but the Dortmunder had a better all around impression and balance I felt and that’s why I’m voting this beer on. Some days these are just tough because I wish New Holland didn’t get voted out in round one, it’s a great beer but that’s what happens when you try to decide the best of the best.
John: I was impressed with the New Holland brew today. Crisp and refreshing, it was a great beer to sit back and enjoy. But, at the end of the day, it didn’t seem to have any of the trademark characteristics of a beer that stands out from the pack. The Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold had those traits today, and for that it receives my vote. Is it just me, or after the last several weeks of matches is anyone else seriously looking forward to Round 2?
Fans: This match was another that was one-sided all the way, with the Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold raking in slightly more than two-thirds of the total votes cast.
Tune in tomorrow when we roll back to Division 1, and keep casting your votes for the newly active matches on the Current Matches page! (You’ll notice a slight change in one match next week, which was never officially announced – my (John’s) fault – and which is explained a bit here in the comments. Sorry for the last minute confusion!)
Living in Michigan, I’m a big fan of New Holland (and quite enjoy the Full Circle as a nice and refreshing beer). Sad to see them bow out early in this tournament, but if you’re looking for suggestions from this brewery for future rounds, Dragon’s Milk is insane and one of my absolute favorites. Ichabod pumpkin is fabulous (my favorite pumpkin ale), and Cabin Fever Brown is also solid.
I was impressed with the New Holland brews, and I have to agree. I could have seen both of their brews going further than Round 1 if they had met up with some of the other beers in this bracket, but fate served them a couple of serious opponents in the opening bout. I’m sure we’ll see a return of New Holland in the next iteration, so thanks for the suggestions!
