Lucky Kat Truly Lucky, Advances 2-1

Posted July 26th, 2010 by BrewGuys and filed in Guiness Brewery, Magic Hat Brewing Company, Round 1 Matches

Before I get to the results, this match was decided by likely 1 non-reviewer vote somewhere out there, making this the closest match we’ve had yet. I’ll explain more later.

John: I loved the overall appearance and the aroma of the Guiness Stout.  The coffee and chocolate combination were very reminiscent of other stouts (link to the Yeti review) I have had, but the finish left me wanting more from this beer.  I place my vote for Magic Hat Lucky Kat – the complexity and smooth finish makes this a great example of an IPA.

Brad: Neither of these brews really have a wow factor in my mind. Guiness faces the hardship of being overly hyped without a lot of sizzle (I really feel like I may have tasted a bad bottle as it was slightly flat), and as I said before, the Lucky Kat’s power is in its aftertaste which could pair well with meat but as a standalone it does not do much for me. Therefore I’m making my call today for the dark horse, the beer I never thought I would give a round to ever, the Guiness Stout. It certainly has a long road ahead and is going to the need the support of you big-beer lovers out there if it hopes to defeat a very strong Dogfish beer.

Fans: You guys really made this one, as this match saw Guinness with a huge lead, Lucky Kat with a huge lead, then tied, then at the buzzer a handful of critical votes came in and broke the tie, giving the match to Magic Hat Lucky Kat 52%-48%.

You guys really do make the difference as evidenced by the few people that voted when the polls were closing that sealed the deal. Please keep it up, today was very exciting. See ya tomorrow!
